Activities
Below are details of all the things to do during a Trigarda Active Holiday and some videos to give you a flavour of what to expect. Group cycle rides, running sessions and swims are all part of the itinerary for a Trigarda Active Holiday and you can also choose from one of the other activities, such as a watersport or rock climbing, if you are feeling particularly adventourous.
Cycling
With a vast network of well maintained dedicated cycle paths and off-road trails, there are loads of ways to explore this stunning natural landscape by bicycle. During the Trigarda Active Holiday, we will take you out on an awesome ride to a number of local lakes, historic sites and amazing views. Check out this short video of Sam and Harry on one of the epic rides, which gives you a flavour of what to expect. High-spec road bikes and mountain bikes can be hired through Trigarda, with the option of going on the guided rides or using a map if you would prefer to ride solo.
Kayak / Paddle Board
The crystal clear waters of Lake Garda are great for exploring by kayak or paddle board. The light winds each morning ensure calm waters that allow for relaxed and effortless kayak trips to the various natural sights dotted around the lake. Only a short distance from the shore is a hidden water fall and cave that can only be accessed by kayak. This 2 hour round trip is incorporated into the Trigarda weekend breaks.
Swimming
There are some stunning pristine mountain-water lakes and rivers in the area that are perfect for practising your open-water swimming, or just for a bit of sunbathing. You may also like to cool off in the nearby River Sarca which cuts through Arco on its way down to Lake Garda and is only a stone’s throw away from the villa. We will visit a number of the local lakes during the Trigarda Active Holiday. This video shows Sam in his wetsuit fighting the current of the Sarca, although no wetsuit is needed during the warm summer months.
Trail Running / Walking
Arco is home to some of the best mountain running trails in Europe, which is one of the reasons it will be hosting the European Championships in 2016. Whether you are training for a race, prefer to take it at a more leisurely pace, or just want to go for an evening stroll, there are plenty of off-road and paved trails to suit any speed or ability. Maps and routes can be provided by the Trigarda team. Have a look at this video of the recent Castle Mountain Race which takes place each year in Arco.
Rock Climbing
Arco is considered to be one of the top destinations in the world for Rock Climbing, which is why thousands of people flock to this little Italian town each year to tackle some of its many rock faces. If you have never tried rock climbing before, and would like to give it a go, sessions can be organised to teach you the basics in a safe and comfortable environment. Check out this promotional video for rock climbing tuition in Arco.
Watersports
Owing to the favourable winds and excellent climate in Lake Garda, you will have ideal conditions for pretty much every watersport, including sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing. You can also enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking on the generally flat water near Torbole and Riva del Garda. Lessons are available for people of all abilities and equipment is available for hire. This video shows the Australian Sailing Team preparing for a race in Lake Garda.
Tasting
After a day of activity, there are plenty of ways to refuel and relax at the numerous restaurants and try out some of the nearby cafes that offer good local Italian food, coffee and wine. Choose from the great pizza and pasta options, as well as highly rated vegan restaurants such as Veganima and Bio-essere. There is even a local Indian Restaurant that serves up great curries, just in case you need your fix. During the Trigarda Active Holidays, the Friday and Saturday evenings are left for you to do as you please, although the Trigarda team can make suggestions and organise group outings if desired. There are plenty of late night drinking holes in the vicinity, for those who want to party the night away and suffer for it the next day.
Other stuff to do
There are enough local historic sites to keep you occupied during your ‘downtime’. You can visit Arco Castle for a spectacular view of Lake Garda. Or you could go and take a look at nearby Toblino Castle, which has its own highly rated restaurant and stunning gardens. Day trips to Gardaland, Verona and Venice can also be organised if you are thinking of staying on after the Trigarda Active Holiday.
